General Ultrasound

General Ultrasound
What is a General Ultrasound?

Ultrasound, also known as a sonogram, or ultrasonography, is widely used in medicine for patients of all ages. Ultrasound is a diagnostic procedure that transmits high-frequency sound waves through body tissues. These sound waves are transformed into images of the internal structures of the body. Ultrasound is safe, noninvasive, and does not use ionizing radiation.

What is a General X-ray?

A general X-ray is the original and most commonly used form of diagnostic imaging. Small amounts of radiation are passed through a selected part of the body to produce a diagnostic image. It is usually used to evaluate the chest and musculoskeletal system.

What is a Fluoroscopy?

Fluoroscopy is a study of moving body structures--similar to an X-ray "movie." A continuous X-ray beam is passed through the body part being examined. The beam is transmitted to a TV-like monitor so that the body part and its motion can be seen in detail. Fluoroscopy, as an imaging tool, enables physicians to look at many body systems, including the skeletal, digestive, urinary, respiratory, and reproductive systems.

Fluoroscopy may be performed to evaluate specific areas of the body, including the bones, muscles, and joints, as well as solid organs, such as the heart, lung, or kidneys.
